I’m loathe to return to the thorny issue of the BBC MotoGP coverage, but the Dutch TT at Assen this weekend is a bit of a complicated one, so return to it I will. Public service and all that.

Like last year, due to Formula 1 qualifying and Wimbledon, there’s no room for the MotoGP race on BBC One or BBC Two on Saturday. Instead, it will be repeated on Sunday at 15:30 on BBC Two.

But fear not, all the races will be on the BBC Red Button and on the BBC MotoGP website – details here.

The international feed will be taken from 10:50, with the 125cc race at 11:00 and Moto2 at 12:15. Matt Roberts et al will then take over for MotoGP build up, with the race at 14:00.

It’s not quite that simple on Freeview, however. Due to Formula 1 FP3 from Valencia, which finishes at 11:00, the Freeview Red Button isn’t due to take the international feed from Assen until 11:10 – ten minutes after the start of the 125cc race.

So if you’re a Freeview viewer – like me – you’ll have to watch the start of the 125cc race online – which you can do here. Bit of a faff, but doable.

Not good enough? Matt Roberts kindly tweeted a statement from the BBC:

“BBC Sport is committed to broadcasting all the action from the MotoGP season. Unlike all the other races the Dutch TT at Assen is scheduled for the Saturday, which means it coincides with Wimbledon and Formula 1 qualifying from Valencia. However, we are able to broadcast the grand prix and the support races on the red button and the BBC Sport website and we will be re-running the race in full on BBC2 on Sunday afternoon at 1530.”

Which, unsurprisingly, is similar to the response I received last year after I had a bit of a rant on the subject.

My opinion remains the same: it’s not ideal, but at least the coverage is always somewhere, even if it’s just the website.
