I’m loathe to return to the thorny issue of the BBC MotoGP coverage, but the Dutch TT at Assen this weekend is a bit of a complicated one, so return to it I will. Public service and all that. Like last year, due to Formula 1 qualifying and Wimbledon, there’s no room for the MotoGP race on BBC One or BBC Two on Saturday. Instead, it will be repeated on Sunday at 15:30 on BBC Two. But fear not, all the races will be on the BBC Red Button and on the BBC MotoGP website – details here. The international feed will be taken from 10:50, with the 125cc race at 11:00 and Moto2 at 12:15. Matt Roberts et al will then take over for MotoGP build up, with the race at 14:00. It’s not quite that simple on Freeview, however. Due to Formula 1 FP3 from Valencia, which finishes at 11:00, the Freeview Red Button isn’t due to take the international feed from Assen until 11:10 – ten minutes after the start of the 125cc race. So if you’re a Freeview viewer – like me – you’ll have to watch the start of the 125cc race online – which you can do here. Bit of a faff, but doable. Not good enough? Matt Roberts kindly tweeted a statement from the BBC:
Which, unsurprisingly, is similar to the response I received last year after I had a bit of a rant on the subject. My opinion remains the same: it’s not ideal, but at least the coverage is always somewhere, even if it’s just the website. Post a comment
