HRT F111

It’s no secret that HRT could do with a cash injection or two. So it’s quite charming that their new car’s livery – which is rather natty – features placeholders for new sponsors. “THIS COULD BE YOU” it shouts.

Another says “THIS IS A COOL SPOT”. It’s only “COOL SPOT” in sensible sized text though.

1991 7 Up Jordan

It almost looks like the team has managed to secure sponsorship from Cool Spot, the 7 Up mascot in North America in the ’90s. Which isn’t quite as ludicrous as it seems – 7 Up did sponsor Jordan in 1991.

It could even refer to Cool Spot, the video game which improbably starred the 7 Up mascot, released for the Mega Drive, SNES and so on back in the day. That would be slightly unfortunate, because the publisher of Cool Spot was the now defunct Virgin Games.

So if you tried really hard to misunderstand, you could reach the conclusion that HRT has sponsorship from Virgin.

But they don’t. Obviously. Mind you, if Richard Branson is as shy with his cheque book as people say, Virgin Racing might not either.
