It’s interesting to watch 2010′s new Formula 1 teams evolve over the winter.

Virgin Racing is the most straightforward: the only change is the addition of title sponsorship from Marussia. Lotus Racing are becoming Team Lotus, and around that there’s the much-discussed mess with Group Lotus sponsoring Renault; but the team is fundamentally sound.

The same manifestly cannot be said of Hispania Racing. What’s going on is anyone’s guess. But it reached a new low today, with team principal Colin Kolles avoiding answering questions put to him on the team’s own website. The team is literally avoiding its own questions. Look:

What is the actual situation of the team and what can you say about the car for the 2011 season? What is being done over the winter?

“We are working to have a better package than last year. From my point of view, the season was not as good as we would have liked it to be in terms of performance and this has to improve. Obviously this depends on a lot of factors but we are working to achieve our goals.”

So reading between the lines, presumably the accurate answers to those questions are: the team barely exists, there is no car for 2011, and nothing is being done over the winter.
