When’s the best time to start a motorsport blog? Right in the middle of the winter, when there’s basically no motorsport around. Okay, there’s A1GP, but that’s on sodding Sky Sports. And the Dakar is good, but that’s Eurosport. The bitterness should make it clear that I have neither at the moment.

But sweet fortune shines on me, as a man called Jeremy Metcalfe is going into Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack tonight. The Internet says he’s a “car racing champion”, and a quick look at a BTCC programme from last season reveals that he did indeed race the number 6 car in Formula Renault UK. Looks like he came fifth overall.

So I’m sure he’ll be the personification of entertainment. And if not, there’s plenty of mileage to be had in enjoying the often ridiculous names of foreign drivers and riders.
