Jake | Thursday 6th May 2010 | Formula 1

It seems like an awfully long time since the last Formula 1 weekend, and even longer – because it is even longer – since Friday practice was on at a sensible time. By which I mean during office hours. So I’m rather looking forward to this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

But Thursday is a funny old day. The F1 folk are getting set up, and there’s nothing really going on. So the stuff coming from the paddock on Twitter is a curious mix. It’s either fascinating, or hugely banal. I’m not sure. But I thought I’d pick through the day’s tweets regardless.

Sebastian Vettel‘s haircut was the biggest news of the day. Jonathan Legard was first with the news, but later reported that Vettel’s cap had been on all day. Jake Humphrey was also on the story, but the final word on the matter goes to Sarah Holt:

“Sebastian Vettel has revealed a short back and sides in Barcelona. He reckons his slimline hair cut will improve Red Bull’s race pace”

The weather is always a favourite subject, and today more than ever, with Spain currently colder than expected. Mike Gascoyne was probably the most informative:

“Revised forecast now says overcast Friday and Sunday but only a slight chance of rain, and brighter on Saturday”

That was an update to his original forecast, which was followed up with information about where the forecasts come from.

Elsewhere: Claire Williams inevitably went with a photo of the grey sky; Jon Noble made an unexpected reference to the Fast Show; James Allen surmised that overtaking may suffer if it’s dry on Sunday; and Lee McKenzie relayed news that Pedro de la Rosa reckons it’ll be wet.

With Spain the first European race of the season, there was a lot of chat about motor homes and trucks, which are making their first appearances of the year. The BBC team are all very excited to be back in their truck: Lee McKenzie was first to voice her delight, Jake Humphrey brought us a photo of the inside, and Sarah Holt followed on.

Of the new teams, Virgin Racing were excited about their new trucks and motor homes; Mike Gascoyne was pleased with the Lotus Racing trucks, but has to wait for the motor home.

Renault have everything there, as do Williams – with a photo courtesy of Claire Williams, naturally. Meanwhile Mercedes are using their DTM motor home for now, and Maurice Hamilton – who was keen to take a look – reported that Red Bull don’t have theirs either.

Finally, a not particularly illuminating photo of the paddock from Jake Humphrey.

There. That’s all the important news from Twitter.
