There are two main rumours about Scuderia Toro Rosso at the moment. The common ground between them is that Sebastien Bourdais has driven his last race for the team. It’s looking ever more likely that we’ll see Jaime Alguersuari – British Formula 3 champion – in his place in Hungary in a fortnight. But rally king Sebastien Loeb‘s name keeps cropping up too. The news today is that Citroen wouldn’t stop him from engaging in a bit of Formula 1 frivolity, providing it takes place after the end of the WRC season. The only race left, then, is Abu Dhabi, a week after Rally GB. So why not go the whole hog and put a number of drivers in the probably spare Toro Rosso? I’d like to see at least A1GP and Formula Two ace – and more importantly Red Bull Junior Team driver – Robert Wickens given a chance. Of course, it wouldn’t be an unprecedented move for Red Bull: Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi shared a seat in Red Bull Racing in 2005. You never know, Red Bull might try to make a bit of a publicity stunt out of it, and have a different guest driver every race – young talent, motorsport legends. They’d probably struggle to convince the FIA to let a celebrity out on the track, but I can imagine them trying. Post a comment
