Bernie Ecclestone is permanently controversial, so to get attention, he really has to go all out. That’s exactly what he did over the weekend in an interview with The Times, covering Hitler amongst other suitably light and fluffy topics.

My favourite line, however, came after criticising the invasion of Iraq:

“We move into countries and we have no idea of the culture.”

Just as well Formula 1 sticks to appropriate countries, where the public is interested. It would be terrible if Bernie just put on races wherever is willing to pay the most.

I mean, imagine if Formula 1 had been coming to a country for five years, but still no spectators were coming. Wouldn’t that be embarrassing? Especially if Bernie Ecclestone was personally involved in the track. Oh.
