Dear Dave, I do enjoy your coverage of the World Rally Championship. Paul King has relaxed as a commentator, and Neil Cole is a suitably entertaining and knowledgeable presenter. I notice that, this year, you enjoy taking guests to the rallies. It started with the moderately informed Shane Lynch out of Boyzone; then came the Dave plug-fest of Red Dwarf’s Robert Llewellyn, who at least enthused about the science behind the WRC. The last two guests have been stand-up comedians. It was hard to tell if Sean Hughes was being dismissive for comedy effect, or if he was genuinely disinterested. Jo Caulfield was enthusiastic, but wide-eyed amazement was all she could offer. Are you struggling to find people with at least a passing interest in motorsport to come out to the rallies with you? If so, I am very happy to offer my services. You’d be welcome to fly me out; put me up in a hotel; show me around the service area; introduce me to the teams, drivers and co-drivers; and drive me out to the stages. For this, I won’t even charge an appearance fee. I know, it seems like I’m being ludicrously generous. But that’s just how I roll. In exchange, I will do my best to engage in Dave’s trademark witty banter with Neil Cole, and perhaps even offer something as outrageous as an opinion once or twice. Kind regards, Jake Post a comment
