The BBC has revealed details of its Formula 1 coverage.

It’s almost ludicrously extensive – which I think is going to prompt more complaints from MotoGP fans. Hopefully they’ll be placated by the news that this week Eurosport is set to confirm reinstated coverage, albeit not live for the MotoGP race.

Anyway, Formula 1. All races will be live on BBC One; qualifying will too, apart from Brazil which will be on BBC Two; races finishing before 10am will be repeated in full on BBC One or Two. Nothing new there.

The BBC Red Button is going to be put to excellent use, though. There will be three video streams during races: the main feed, with either BBC One or BBC Radio 5 Live commentary; split screen of the main feed, in-car and a leaderboard; and rolling highlights. All topped off with an “additional interactive analysis programme” after BBC One is finished. Very good!

Moving on to the ludicrously extensive bit, the Red Button will also carry every Friday and Saturday practice session. I’ll be interested to see who – if anyone? – they get to commentate on them though.

But for me, the biggest improvement over ITV’s coverage is the highlights show, which rather than the middle of the night, will be shown at 7pm on BBC Three.

Oh, and all of it will be shown on the BBC Sport website too.

I defy anyone to complain about any aspect of it. Apart from MotoGP coverage not being as extensive. Though we still don’t know what theme tune we’re going to get…

UPDATE

Actually, it was confirmed that The Chain is indeed going to be back as the theme tune. As you were.
