The BBC has confirmed the line-up for its Formula 1 coverage next season – and it’s basically perfect.

Most of the rumours were true. Former CBBC presenter and until now reasonably low-profile BBC Sport presenter Jake Humphrey takes the role of anchor. He will be joined by – as expected for some time – David Coulthard and – as more recently rumoured – Eddie Jordan. This really is tremendous: both Coulthard and Jordan are well known for speaking their brains, and as replacements for Mark Blundell – who is, in the nicest possible way, the blandest man alive – the BBC couldn’t have done any better.

The commentary team is exactly as predicted: Martin Brundle comes across from ITV, and Jonathan Legard from BBC Radio 5 Live. I know little of Legard, but his reputation is more positive than James Allen’s; there’s no need to further sing the praises of Brundle.

For me, the best news is that Ted Kravitz is being kept on as a pit-lane reporter. Not only is he excellently blunt, but it means that the BBC is keeping and dropping exactly who I said should be kept and dropped in March. He’ll be joined by Lee McKenzie, who presented the short-lived ITV1 Sunday afternoon strand Speed Sunday, and has more recently fronted A1GP on Sky Sports. She seems fine.
