From next year Formula 1 fans will enjoy “uninterrupted, state of the art and innovative coverage from BBC Sport, across all of our TV, radio and new media platforms,” as the rights go back to the BBC after 12 years with ITV.
As long as it doesn’t see ITV reconsider their other motorsport offerings - by which I mean the BTCC and British Superbikes, which thanks to ITV4 they give more airtime than I can see any other broadcaster being able to afford - then I’m happy.
After all, it’s an opportunity for a changing of the guard. Murray Walker went from BBC to ITV, so certain individuals could be retained. And others could be dropped. Let’s not mince our words.
The reason I say Steve Ryder is irrelevant, is that he’s most likely contracted to ITV more generally than for Formula 1, and has nothing particular to add anyway. I’m not sure who I’d replace him with. I’ll leave that for Auntie Beeb.
