After thinking I should do it last year, I’ve finally placed bets for the seasons ahead. I pretend to know something about motorsport, so why not test myself?

Like last year – but literally this year – my money is on Felipe Massa for the F1 title. I maintain that he would have won this year if it hadn’t been for an unfair share of Ferrari’s unreliability, and I reckon he’ll be very keen to prevent Raikkonen from becoming the team’s de facto number one driver.

Nicky Hayden has unrealistically long odds for the MotoGP championship to my mind. Honda have to be stronger this year, Hayden topped the recent official pre-season test, he’s won the title before, and I still rate him higher than Pedrosa. So my money’s on him.

I’m also backing Toseland to be the top rookie in MotoGP, and Bradley Smith – who’s with a top team now – to take the 125cc crown. I’d probably agree that neither are favourites, but a combination of patriotism and attractive odds convinced me.

Now let the seasons unfold, and we can all laugh as I’m proved hilariously wrong.
