I watched the last few laps of the Daytona 500 on Five US earlier in the week. Did I get NASCAR all wrong?

I’ve only watched one other bit of NASCAR, and that was another highlights show on Five US, shortly after the channel launched. I struggled to get to the end of the hour.

But I’m going to give it another chance. NASCAR must be terribly relieved.

Playing one of the then IndyCar Series games some years ago gave me an appreciation of the subtleties of oval racing. And watching the end of the Daytona 500 brought that back. The teamwork, the track positioning, the frequent swapping of places – there’s quite a lot to it.

So did I catch a dull NASCAR race before, or a good one this time? I’ll have to watch some more to find out. But I’d be interested in the views of any other Brits – or anyone else, for that matter.
